The Montana State Genealogical Society’s 2018 Conference, in partnership with the Great Falls Genealogy Society, was held in Great Falls on September 20th, 21st & 22nd at the Heritage Inn. The GFGS held an open house on Thursday, with over 60 guests touring our library and holdings. On Friday, five workshops were conducted by Pam and Rick Sayre, and later that day, a banquet buffet was served.
At the banquet, historian Ken Robison spoke of researching neglected heroes in Montana, and Sister Francis Xavier Porter of the Ursuline Centre, archivist, was awarded the Al Huntsman Award, given by the State Society in acknowledgement for dedicated service to the genealogical community by a non-genealogist. There was also a memorial for society members that had passed away since the previous State conference in 2017. Within the GFGS, we were missing members Jim Eayrs, Vickey Krautner, and Shirley Jorgensen.
On Saturday. there were three more workshops with Pam and Rick Sayre, the MSGS Annual Meeting was conducted in the morning and various raffles and drawings were concluded.
When all was said and done, it was a successful conference. Much information was presented and learned, old friends met up again and new friends were made, and a good time was had by all.
